Network Rail - Garsdale Station (North Yorkshire)

Network Rail – Garsdale Station (North Yorkshire)

Refurbishment of Station
Value: £350,000 | Duration: 5 Months

Extensive restoration works to the station required careful attention to the buildings’ many original features dating back to the Midland Railway (MR) design of 1876. The restoration included utilising the original roof slates and ridges with the stonework on chimneys, repair of doors, window surrounds and pierced barge boards all constructed in line with the original design and building style.
A National Railway Heritage Award for the refurbishment of Garsdale was presented to Network Rail in 2009, as the overall winner of the Craft Skills Award category.
The refurbishment of Garsdale Station was all made possible as a result of the collaboration and funding between Network Rail, the Friends of the Settle-Carlisle Line (FoSCL) and the Railway Heritage Trust.
